Yesterday, I started the Betting Series on the blog and the first feature game was Newcastle vs Manchester City.
Of my seven predictions, I was able to get 4 right (three-and-a-half I think). Not bad. In case you missed it, you can preview it here.
In this post, I will be analyzing some select games. I’ll be breaking down the statistics and using them to make predictions for possible outcomes.
So, let’s get started!
Juventus vs Lazio (Serie A)
Analysis: Juventus are top of the Serie A table and they face eighth-placed Lazio. Although Juventus are six points ahead of the next team on the table, they will be looking to wrap up the league as fast as they can. This is more reason for them to want to win this game. They have the advantage in this game too! Why? The Turin Boys are playing at home. In their last 5 games at home, they haven’t lost a single game. THEY HAVE WON ALL the games, scoring 9 times and conceding only 2 goals. Lazio, on the other hand, have won only one of their last 5 games away. The rest, they drew. They have scored 5 times and have conceded only twice in their last five games away.
My Prediction: From the above stats, picking a Juve win is a bit dicey because of Lazio’s away form. To be on the safe side (although the odds may be small), go for a Juventus Win or Draw (Juventus 1X)
– Because of Lazio’s poor goalscoring abilities away from home (5 goals in their last 5 away games), Juventus is likely to score the first goal of the game. That is, Juventus to Score First.
– Lazio may not score in the game so there’s a possibility that both teams will not score. That is, Both Teams Score No.
West Ham vs Watford (EPL)
Analysis: West Ham is sixth on the table. Watford is 12th on the log. West Ham haven’t lost any of their last 5 home games, winning 3 and drawing twice. Watford have not been as lucky as the Hammers away from home. They’ve won just 2 of their last 5 games away, losing the remaining 3. Their goalscoring form has been poor too. They’ve only scored 3 times in their last 5 away games and have conceded 7 goals. That’s conceding at least a goal every game.
My Prediction: I would have advised a Both Teams to Score selection for this game because of West Ham’s habit for conceding goals at home but… Watford’s poor goal scoring record may not let that happen. So, one of the most likely outcomes of this game is West Ham to Score First.
– West Ham to Score.
– West Ham to win Either Halves.
– West Ham to Win or Draw.
Manchester United vs Crystal Palace (EPL)
Analysis: Man. Utd are currently 5th on the log table and are eyeing a UEFA Champions League spot. So they may just win this one. Luckily enough, the stats are in their favour. In their last 5 games at home, they haven’t lost any game. They have won all, scoring 9 goals and conceding 2. Another reason for a Man. Utd win? Crystal Palace’s TERRIBLE away form. They haven’t won any of their last 5 away games. They have drawn 4 and lost 1. But they know how to score having scored 8 goals in those last 5 away games and conceding 9 goals.
My Prediction: Of course the most likely outcome is a Man. Utd win. But I won’t go for that (you can if you want to). What I want to go for is Man. Utd Under 2.5 Goals. That is, Man. Utd will not score more than 2 goals in this game. Why this choice you may ask? It is because, in Man. Utd’s last 5 Premier League games at home, they’ve only scored 3 goals in a game once (against Arsenal). Simple.
– Man. Utd to Win or Draw (1X)
– Over 1.5 Goals
– Of course, Man. Utd to score
– Both Teams to Score Yes (although I’m a bit skeptical about this one.)
There you have it! Plenty of options to choose from.
Oh! I almost forgot. There’s a bonus game. You can pick Chievo Verona to Win or Draw (1X). Verona are unbeaten in their last 5 games, just in case you’re wondering why I picked this game.
So, have fun, make your own calculations and be sure to select the outcome that is the most likely to happen.
By the way, do not play with what you can’t afford to lose. Don’t ever forget that.
