#ThrowbackThursday: Who/What Made You Become a Fan of Your Beloved Club?

If you’ve been following the blog since its WordPress days, – not that we left though – you’ll know that we have a Whatsapp group where various football fans go on and on about everything football – and at times, other sports, especially when football decides to go on a break.

How did you become a fan of your beloved club?

Amidst all the messages, one of the fans on the group, Obote Ayodele, raised the question:

What/Who is the reason why you became a fan of your beloved club?

We got so many fascinating replies that we had to publish them. While you’re reading some of them, you can leave us a comment and answer the question too. We’d love to hear from you. And if you’re not allergic to a lot of Whatsapp messages and you love talking football, you can click here to join the FTG Whatsapp group. We’d be pleased to have you on board.

Awolope Kolawole: Red,  Anfield, Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard in that order

Obote Ayodele: Manchester United, Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

Obayomi Mackie: Jens Lehmann

Fijasewa Arogunyo: Atmosphere at Anfield in a 2004/05 Champions League game.

AK: One Xabi Alonso pass and Anfield rocking in red had me

FA: It was first leg v Bayer Leverkusen in the Last 16 Of the 2005 UCL

FA: I had been looking for the club Milan Baros played for after he top scored at Euros

Slump Boluwatife: Money, Ambition, Arsene Wenger and Le Parisien

OA: I was a Zidane fan due to that 2002 UCL final goal, not supporting any club though I started out liking the dying out bendel insurance( yes the same one) cos well my cousin played there, till I watched the famous “battle of old Trafford game” . It was either arsenal or United for me, but that long nosed penalty missing fellow just got my attention

Victor Ndulewe: Manchester United’s strict adherence to tradition. They became my team on the PlayStation one and the love grew naturally. Sir Alex Fergie was another reason.

Babatunde Kolawole: Papilo, Arsenal’s beautiful football 2003. I also had an uncle that was a secondary school team coach, coached  the likes of golden eaglets Ajagun back then, that uncle knew how to make arsenal’s football sound so beautiful. Igwe(Thierry Henry)  was the icing on the cake.

TY: Well I used to be a Las Palmas fan …😃😃😃😃😃….I liked their yellow Outfits ….

Yinka: My close friends at school and home were Chelsea fans. Then the love for Drogba and all that.

AK: Oh, You the 2004 class.. Every pun intended

Yinka: It was 2007. Some call us The plastic fans.😃

Olakunle Agboola: Zidane and del piero wearing the juve jerseys….. Oliseh was also there for d Nigerian flair and then he left… Guess What? Buffon, nedved, trezeguet,  camoranesi……u just can’t leave a team with that much talent..

Victor Opone: Matchday magazine (an English soccer magazine that my pops always got sent down here) almost got me hooked on Arsenal but I was looking at Bayern more based on popsy’s crazy love for them… Until I somehow saw an old image of Lou Macari at united then… Plus some talk about youngins doing it for United around the same time(used to fantasize about being one of them too!) But Bayern was still top of the list till my dad got annoyed we’d beaten his favorite team in ’99 and he informed me the old Trafford is also known as the Theatre of dreams!! That was it!

Lawrence Alonge: After 2006 UCL final between Barca and Arsenal. I love Eto so much then

Rotimi Daramola: Man. City: Seeing Stephen Ireland play was all I needed.

Israel Olagunju: Henry… Dude is a god.

Ayo Matthew: For me it was all about cristiano Ronaldo #Manutd

Muyiwa Adagunodo: Style of play and people I used to watch football with. The club (Arsenal) just looked like a classy club back then when I started back in ’05

Apampa Tobiloba: Went to a neighbour’s house way back then. They were watching a cd/dvd of chelsea’s 04/05 season. Can’t remember the whole clip but i remember Lampard rounding Jussi Jaaskelainen and scoring. I was hooked from then on

Wenya Phoster: It was a match that ended Chelsea 5-0 Manchester United some years ago that made me love Chelsea.. It was a flawless victory.

Ajayi Demilade: My own was Henry. He used arsenal to scam me 😩

Chinedu Gbefun: Mine is Sheikh Mansour🤗😌

Ayo: Since the day Alex Ferguson became our coach😎😎😎🏃🏃

Akkadian: Man u made me love football, but barca made it my addiction

Vince: King 🤴 Cantona
